SHORT DESCRIPTION
─────────────────
Power is an engineering utility designed for (but not limited to)
a group of Electronics Engineers whose tasks involve IC circuit
designs. The two-fold primary directive is: calculate from one
or two input files the required current for a set of chips in a
circuit design, and provide a means of information sharing
between engineers so that there is no redundant data entry while
allowing engineers to have their own personal DataBase to work
from.
Power has a fully windowized, text-graphics, user-friendly
interface. All major errors are trapped. The Data Entry
interface has features that reduce repetitious typing of similar
part numbers of the same manufacturer. The Viewer/Editor
function allows point-and-shoot editing while also viewing the
data in one window. The DataBase Editor has a user-configurable
password protection as a deterrent against unauthorized editorial
changes in the DataBase. The Configuration Menu allows users to
configure for exploding-window sound, error bell sound,
background color toggle, and DataBase Editor password toggle.
The only limit to the size of the DataBase is the available
memory and disk space.

LONG DESCRIPTION
────────────────
Power is an engineering application designed for (but not limited
to) a group of Electronics Engineers whose tasks involve IC
circuit designs. The two-fold primary directive is: calculate
from one or two input files the required current for a set of
chips in a circuit design, and provide a means of information
sharing between engineers so that there is no redundant data
entry while allowing engineers to have their own personal
DataBase to work from.
One of two main benefits is that a group of engineers has a
viable means of data-sharing without incurring redundant data in
the datafiles or database, and without compromising data
integrity in either file. Each engineer can have his/her own
database while at the same time share data with one another.
This means time savings with respect to data entry. The other
main benefit is the time savings afforded in terms of manual
labor in an effort to get the required current value,
particularly if the information comes from the database.
Power can calculate the required current to run the IC chips in
the engineer's circuit design. A formula is used to feed on the
values supplied by the datafiles, which data the engineer has
inputted the information.
The engineer inputs the IC parameter data from an IC databook.
The data entry interface includes features such as Variable
Constants in three of the chip's parameters; these constants are
like a number constant in a calculator. This reduces repetitious
typing of similar IC chips from the same manufacturer. These
constants include the IC chip's Manufacturer, Max Vcc, and the
prefix to the IC chip's part number. All or a combination or
just one of the Variable Constants can be defined. They are
global constants, that is, their definitions remain in effect
even when the user exits from data entry and performs some other
function. When data entry is resumed, the constants still remain
in effect.
Another feature of the data entry interface is that every part
number entered into the keyboard is checked in the DataBase for a
match. If a match is found, the IC chip's electrical parameters
are drawn out of the DataBase and transferred to the input file.
This saves the user considerable time in data entry.
Hence the ultimate ease of data entry (short of a Merge
operation) can be reached by entering a mere suffix of a part
number and the quantity. That's all!
Power also has an elaborate point-and-shoot editor in the same
window used for viewing the data. There's no switching back and
forth between viewing and editing. What you see is what you get,
and what you edit is what you get. The Viewer and Editor is
toggled back and forth by a function key, so that the Viewer
function can be isolated from the Editor function. (The viewing
commands are still effective in the Editor.) The window contains
14 lines of scrollable data.
3
Another feature of Power is its ability to merge data files and
DataBases into another. This allows engineers to share their
data among themselves without having to resort to adding more
data to an existing data file or DataBase just to combine the two
files in one.
Power does all its screen operations in text mode, meaning a
graphics adaptor is not necessary. It will work in just about
any IBM clone from 8088 PC to 80486 AT, and from DOS 2.1 to DOS
5.00. It will display in any video adaptor.
Power has a 30-day free evaluation period so you can decide if
you like it. Its author, Michael D. O'Connor, is a member of the
Association of Shareware Professionals (ASP). It is written
mostly in Turbo Pascal 6.0 with some assembly code linked with
it.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
────────────────────────
Complete registration information is provided in REGISTER.DOC. A
registered user receives a printed copy of the user's manual, the
latest version of the program on a diskette, 90 days technical
support, and upgrades at a lower cost. Registration reminders
are suppressed in the registered version of the program.

REQUIREMENTS FOR DISTRIBUTERS, VENDORS, AND CLUBS
─────────────────────────────────────────────────
The following additional information and restrictions are
intended for Shareware Distributors, Disk Vendors, and Computer
Clubs who wish to distribute the Power package.
ASP ASSOCIATE (DISK VENDOR) MEMBER INFORMATION
──────────────────────────────────────────────
Vendors who are ASP Associate Members in good standing are hereby
given permission to distribute the Power package in accordance
with the LIMITED DISTRIBUTION LICENSE, and do not need to request
permission to distribute this package. Distribution as part of a
collection is also authorized, as long as the version is kept
current. This version was released as indicated at the top of
this file.
If your address, as listed in the ASP Vendor Catalog is
incorrect, please send me your current address so I can ensure
you always have the most current version (mailed in a sealed
envelope). Please contact me by letter, BBS, or CompuServe to
confirm your interest in Power, and I will ensure that you will
automatically receive free upgrades for all shareware products
developed and distributed by me. A copy of your catalog showing
my work would be most appreciated.
COMPUTER CLUBS AND USER GROUPS
──────────────────────────────
Computer Clubs and User Groups are permitted to distribute the
current version of Power package in accordance with the LIMITED
DISTRIBUTION LICENSE (see file LICENSE.DOC).
ALL OTHER DISTRIBUTORS
──────────────────────
Shareware Distributors and Disk Vendors who are not ASP Associate
Members, but who wish to distribute Power must comply with the
following additional restrictions:
In order for me to ensure only current versions are
distributed, you must request permission from me to
distribute any of my products. You may not list any of
my products in advertisements, catalogs, or other
literature which describes my product as "FREE
SOFTWARE". Shareware is "Try Before You Buy" software,
it is not free. When making your request please
ensure I have your correct address and phone number, as
well as the name of the person I may contact if
necessary.
